One of the things that I always learned and enjoyed while traveling was getting to know the local people and experience a few of their traditions and what local people are passionate about doing.
It can be something simple, but very important to understand and respect it. Especially in small communities where traditions are mostly marked, with the contrast in the way is carried out with less rigor in the cities. In one way or the other at the end of the day, it is worth trying, so enjoy doing what the locals do! I will give you some of the best things to do during your visit to Puerto Vallarta.
Draw your exploration map – Make a Plan
If you have planned to visit this warm city, it is always good that you make your plan for the day and select activities according to your budget and your calendar, so you can get the most out of your stay according to the time you have planned to visit.
For example, If you have only 4 days like one of the most popular hotel tourist packages, I suggest exploring the city first, then signing up for one or two outdoor activities so that you can leave sometime in the end to enjoy a good lunch or dinner more relaxed in a restaurant of your choice facing the sea.
Explore old Downtown and the Malecon
Prepare yourself for a very interesting walk. This is definitely a MUST to do while visiting the city. Full of history and decorated along the way with beautiful statues, is the main pedestrian road that locals and visitors “hang around” full of stores, bars and restaurants, street, sea-side artists, and the panorama: sea, waves, and the best place to watch the sunset.
Church of Our Lady of Guadalupe
Our Lady of Guadalupe church become one of its city icons, it dominates Vallarta’s downtown skyline and is one of the favorite symbols and landmarks of the city.
I will suggest visiting during the weekend, for me, it is much better on Sunday and please follow the local etiquette to respect the prayers that visit the church to attend the mass.
Rhythms of the Night Show
This is one of my favorite tours especially for couples, I really love the atmosphere created in the night illuminated only with candles while you are having dinner.
Rhythms of the Night is Puerto Vallarta’s most acclaimed dinner show, conceived of, written, and directed by Gilles Ste-Croix, the co-creator of Cirque du Soleil. According to Aztec legend, there were 4 civilizations of humanity prior to ours, each seeing the human race’s evolution and decline. Rhythms of the Night interpret this creation myth through pulsating rhythms, vibrant dances, intricate costumes, but perhaps above all, spectacular acrobatic skill. Your evening begins with a scenic cruise through the Bay of Banderas at sunset. You will be welcomed to Las Caletas by dancers, drummers, and fantastic jungle creatures who guide you onto the beach where a sumptuous dinner will be spread out before you. Enjoy the feast as the palm trees sway overhead, with sounds of the ocean against the nearby shore.
Nogalito Eco Park
Driving approx. 30 minutes south of Puerto Vallarta, you will find an excellent option to explore the natural beauty and outdoor attractions in the area. Nogalito River is a favorite spot for local hikers. The cool waters and shaded paths make hiking here a refreshing escape from the heat of the city. Whether you explore the river in Puerto Vallarta on your own or take a Nogalito river hiking tour, without a doubt it is a great location to discover nature where also you can have lunch in a restaurant completely immerse in the local jungle.
